Our Favorite Places to Go Apple Picking in Vermont

Apple picking in Vermont is just about as good as it gets!

There is something about the chilly fall air, the waft of apple cider donuts, and the crisp of newly fallen leaves underfoot that warms the soul.

You can take pretty much any side road to find a local farm that lets you pick it’s bounty in the harvesting seasons, but here is a list of our team’s favorite spots to take the family for a day of apple picking and eating around Vermont.

Adams Apple Orchard and Farm Market

Adams Market is definitely a local favorite. Every year they host a Fall Festival that draws large crowds. This year they have spread out the festivities into a few weekends of fall family fun. Apple picking is in full swing, stop by daily between 10-5.

Chapin Orchard

Located in Essex, Chapin Orchard is a great spot to pick a variety of apples. They are open daily from 9:30-5:30. Stop in (usually on Thursdays) to watch cider making in action on their renovated antique press.

Shelburne Orchards

The Cider House Store at Shelburne Orchards is making cider donuts for the first time which will be a treat to try this year! They are open daily from 9-6:30 (closes on Sundays at 5) for apple picking and some peach picking while they last as well! They also sell apple trees so you can start your own orchard in your backyard! Check out their calendar of events for some family fun this fall!

Burtt’s Apple Orchard

Open daily from 9-6, Burtt’s boasts 36 Varieties of U-Pick Apples as well as cider, donuts, and syrup…all the Vermont favorites!

Boyers Orchard

Visit Boyer’s from 9:30-5 daily for apple picking, apple cider donuts, and plenty of homemade baked goodies.

Apple Barn

The Apple Barn is a fun spot for kids but, hey, this year they have opened a Wine and Cider Tasting Room that mom and dad will want to visit! Visit daily from 8:30-5 to experience this Vermont classic!

Wellwood Orchards

Wellwood doesn’t disappoint with their apple picking, petting zoo, country store, and more. Open daily from 9-5 but stop in on the weekends from Labor Day through Columbus Day for free wagon rides!

Allenholm Farm

Allenholm Farm is a seventh generation Vermont apple orchard on an island in Lake Champlain. A unique spot to explore with bike rentals, a petting zoo, a country store – oh and apple picking! Open daily from 9-5.

Liberty Farm in Randolph/ Brookfield has dwarf apple trees which make picking for little ones easy. They have probably 10 varieties. Visit the floating bridge afterwards! has farms by county. I noticed some of the ones listed above are pretty far from Chittenden County so it would nice if the description listed the location without having to click on the farm’s website.
